Prof. Dr. Falah Abu-Jarad is a Professor in Radiation Protection earned his M.Sc. & Ph.D degree in Applied Radiation Physics at Aston University & the University of Birmingham / UK (1977 & 1980). In Addition he received several certificates in the field of radiation protection. He Published 94 international scientific Articles, holding 4 Certificates of Competences to practice and advise in all aspects of Radiation Protection from Society of Radiological Protection /UK, 1992, 1997, 2002 and 2007. Furthermore, Dr. Falah is a licensed Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) from King Abdullah City for Atomic & Renewable Energy (K.A.CARE) in (a) Industrial Radiography (b) Teaching Radiation Protection Courses and Research . He has 40 years of rich experience in radiation protection services and research.
1980-1981 Dr. Abu-Jarad was a research follow in physics department of University of Birmingham – UK.
At King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) from 1981-2002, he was a delegated leader of the Radiation Protection Group in 1984. He was the principle coordinator for the Short Course titled “Principles of Radiation Protection (PRP)” initiated 1990 (at that time there is no single RSO in the Kingdom), a requirement for candidates planning to attend RSO Exam at K.A.CARE He received 2 distinction awards from the University for his (i) coordination and teaching the PRP course (ii) Applied research.
After KFUPM, Dr. Abu-Jarad joined Saudi Aramco. From 2002-2007, he held the position of the leader of Man-made Ionizing Radiation Sources (MIRS) group in the Radiation Protection Unit (RPU) of Environmental Protection Department (EPD). Major of activities of the group cover all radiation protection issues related to man-made ionizing radiation sources used by Saudi Aramco. He initiated, administered and coordinated the qualification exam for industrial radiography workers who require obtaining a Radiation Protection Permit (RPP) for their work in the Saudi Aramco. Dr Abu Jarad also led the role in Radiation Safety compliance monitoring of contractors and facilities using radiation sources on Saudi Aramco Properties , He also managed to prepare and obtain with his team 17 radiation practices licenses to Saudi Aramco facilities from K.A.CARE. He participated heavily in preparing the first radiation protection manual for Saudi Aramco.
From 2008-2016 Dr. Abu-Jarad established from zero all Saudi Pioneers for Specialized Services (SPSS) activities in the field of Radiation protection Program, managing, effectively running and obtaining 5 SPSS Radiation Practice Licenses (RPL) from the national authority – K.A.CARE (1. RSO training, 2. RW Training, 3. Leak test and radiation survey, 4. Safe Radiation Sources Transportation and 5. Industrial Radiography services). Established from zero NORM Services (Pipe decontamination, Survey, Containment and NORM training Program). Offering Many Radiation protection consultations and Services (include RPL consultation and Related Radiation Protection activities as per the above approved radiation licenses) for many companies
